Do-Run-RunThe Do-Run-Run will be the inaugural running event on the Ship Creek Trail connecting downtown to Mountain View. The paved, multi use trail crosses and parallels Ship Creek, revealing wilderness and wildlife through a region previously known for its industrial nature. The trail is separated by bridges and tunnels from traffic hazards. There will be three distances to introduce runners and walkers of all abilities to this new treasure. All events will start on the path next to the dam across Ship Creek adjacent to the Comfort Inn. The SC&ARR Bridge 3 km will showcase the new bridge crossing Ship Creek and the Alaska Railroad tracks. The signature Do-Run-Run is 4 miles in length turning around next to Reeve Drive. The Up the Creek is slightly longer but covers the entire distance to the trail terminus at Tyson Elementary in Mountain View. For those who cannot tolerate fractions, a special 5-mile start line will be available. All courses are out-and-back for full enjoyment of the views. Being a fun, introductory event, there will be no bibs, no awards, and no prizes. However, everyone will be timed and refreshments will be served afterwards. Think of these events as Tuesday Night Races without the mud and in daylight! Start your training now for fall. Parking permits have been secured for the Diamond Parking Lot across from the Comfort Inn between Ship Creek Avenue and the railroad tracks. Please display the permit provided at the entrance and park at the east end of the lot. Registration will occur at 5:30 p.m. and the events begin at 6 p.m. The courses are suitable for all ages. Everyone is welcome to participate in this season opener for the 2009 Anchorage Running Club slate of events. |
