About the Big Wild Life Runs
Message from the Race Director
It seems as if we were just tearing down the finish line from Big Wild Life Runs
2011 when we began planning for another successful event in 2012. Mike Halko, race
director for the last five years, has stepped down, and I am taking over as race
director. I will do my best to fill his large shoes with the help of the dedicated
members of the BWLR race committee.
The Big Wild Life Runs is fast becoming a popular “destination” event, and we are
excited to see increasing numbers of runners and the community’s participation and
enthusiasm increase significantly every year.
We have a lot of planning to do to ensure the race grows better as well as bigger.
Some changes planned for 2012 include arranging for packet pick-up/last chance registration
to occur on both Friday and Saturday at the same (hopefully bigger) location, and
planning a two-day expo to include more vendors.
Because the Children’s Hospital at Providence’s Kids 2K has become increasingly
popular as well, the location and time has changed; the Kids 2K will now be held
on Saturday at the Delaney Park Strip, which we hope will allow for even more family-friendly
festivities.
Jeff Galloway, former Olympian and author of the run/walk marathon program, will
be returning for his 3rd year.
Big plans and successful events could not happen without committed volunteers. If
you want to be a part of this growing event by joining one of our race committees,
we would love to hear from you.
I look forward to seeing you on August 19, 2012!
Sharron Fisherman, BWLR Race Director
