Volunteer!
The BWLR race committee (aka "The Board of Animals") is looking for experienced runners who are willing to volunteer for three critically needed positions of responsibility. If you are a good organizer and would like to be more involved with the nitty gritty of running this event, please consider offering your help (or someone else's!). No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn a bit more about organizing a popular race. Obsessive compulsives especially welcome. The following is a description of the positions available:
1) Aid Station Coordinator (most important need): This person or persons would be responsible for making certain the aid stations are set up, manned, and torn down in a timely, smooth manner on race day. The coordinator would need to ensure that each group manning the station knows where, when, and exact duties during the race (most of the groups have been doing this for years, just would need to be the "go to" person in charge). Coordinate volunteers to drop off supplies to each aid station on AM of event. During race, maintain contact with each aid station in order to be able to quickly respond to any last minute needs or problems. At end of race, responsible for ensuring that all supplies returned to ARC storage locker. This position would probably not take a whole lot of work to organize, but would require attention the entire day of the race. Splitting the position and duties on race day would probably work best.
2) Media/Public Relations Guru: This person would ideally be someone who is already involved within the field of PR and/or media, or who would like to be . Duties would include working with various media (ADN, The Coast, Runner's World, local radio/tv outlets) to ensure adequate and accurate information is disbursed via short announcements, written statements, or short articles. Friendliness and good communication skills necessary.
If any of these positions sound interesting, or there are questions, please feel free to call Mike Halko 351-1621 or Bonnie Swanson 345 8077, or email BWLRAlaska@gmail.com.
