Summary of September 28, 2009 Board Meeting
- In attendance: Board members Betty Cronin, Mike Halko, Gregory Dixon, George Gates, Todd List, Paul Verrier, Debbie Cropper, Donna Pedersen; Club member Charles Utermohle.
- Introduction and welcome of new board members.
- Announcement of resignation of Ed Wilson. He will stay on to train Todd List to monitor ARC email account. The board extends a special thanks to Ed for his many invaluable years of service to ARC.
- Discussion & unanimous approval of ARC support & contribution to the MOA Tuesday Night Race Series. For the 10/27/2009 race, we will mark the Munchkin course, provide race volunteers, make a cash contribution & donate prizes for the Munchkin race.
- Big Wildlife Run Report lead by race director, Mike Halko. Included in the report was an informative “lessons learned” discussion to aid ARC in continuing to improve the race each year. Feedback from members and participants were included. The BWLR, our largest event, continues to grow in popularity and is financially viable.
- Recap of the Oktoberfest Run by race director Charles Utermohle. The race was well attended and continues to grow. Food collected has been delivered to Bean’s Café. Donations of clothing went to the Brother Frances Shelter and Catholic Social Services. Once expenses are paid, all proceeds will be donated as well. The board thanks Bristol Bay Native Corp. for their support of this run, and Skinny Raven for donating race prizes.
- Membership report: There will be no increase in membership fees for 2010. “Military Family” will be added to membership categories. The database continues to be improved. ARC will continue the Wednesday night “running at the Dome” benefit for members, beginning on October 6 and continuing through March. Hours will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
- Dates were submitted and approved for 2010 Running club events, which will be posted in the Alaska Runner’s Calendar.
- Discussion of new equipments needs, as well as some suggestions for improving management of the equipment that is already owned. The storage locker will be cleaned and winterized in November, with an eye toward making improvements such as more shelving and lights.
- A proposal for a new race, the Zombie Half Marathon, was discussed and unanimously approved. Mike Halko will serve as race director and will coordinate efforts.
- Gregory Dixon submitted a comprehensive draft of the 2010 budget for comment and discussion. This was the main focus of the meeting, and was combined with the treasurer’s report, along with a review of the BWLR budget. Also included were monetary needs for ARC other races and community commitments for 2010, including scholarship funds. Gregory hopes to submit a final budget for approval at the next board meeting.
